Keeping Kids Sane At Disney !!!

It's hard to imagine how excited a small child must be, visiting Walt Disney World® for the first time. The build up to the actual event will probably have spanned several months, and all too often the reality of finally "being there" is just overwhelming. However, there are one or two things that you can do, to make sure that both you and your little darlings get the most out of what is undoubtedly one of the best vacation destinations in the world.

Pre-planning is vital. Walt Disney World Resort® is vast, and the chances are that unless you run your vacation like a military operation, which let's face it, no one wants, you are not going to be able to "do" everything within the space of an average family vacation. But don't worry… it's a great excuse, if excuses were needed, to come back again next year !

Take the time prior to your trip to chat through all the various options with your kids. A visit to the Theme Park & Attractions section of the Dolphin Song Villa web site will give you loads of information and ideas [Click HERE] You will often be surprised how decisive they can be when it comes to what they want to do. Make sure that they understand that it's your vacation too, and that not every minute will be spent in a theme park in search of the Big Cheese himself !!!

Set some rules and boundaries. You can even work out a rough schedule, (bearing in mind this might have to change in the unlikely event of inclement weather) so your kids can see their vacation appearing and growing before their very eyes, albeit on paper at this stage.

And don't forget to build in a few "rest days" too. Theme parks are huge places, and you will walk for miles. So remember, that if you are feeling tired and achy, most likely your kids will be too (although they'd never admit to it !). Rest days allow you to recharge your batteries, relive the memories of previous days events, and enjoy some quality family time away from the hustle and bustle.

If you choose to stay at Dolphin Song Villa, you will have the added luxury of your own private pool, so take full advantage of the fact that you can make your own entertainment without all the razzmatazz of the parks, and spend a few days splashing about in the water and soaking up the glorious Florida sunshine.

Trust me when I tell you that the majority of kids won't feel cheated with a day by the pool. My own villa Guest Book & Guest Satisfaction Surveys are filled with comments of amazed parents who said their kids often asked if they could actually leave the theme parks early to get back for a splash about !

Another great tip is to split your days at the theme parks, by returning to Dolphin Song Villa mid afternoon, when the sun is at it's height. Take time out for a light lunch on the pool deck, take a siesta or enjoy a relaxing swim, before returning to the parks refreshed and energised for all the night time activities and fireworks.

When you're out and about, take small packs of raisins as an energy boost, and remember that keeping the kids hydrated will stop them getting cranky and over tired. However, try to avoid too many sugar rich sodas, as this will create hyperactivity !

And don't be afraid to split up, in order to do things that not everyone is interested in doing. There is nothing worst than dragging children around to places they don't want to go. Simply decide on a time scale and a meeting place where you can rendezvous again. Or why not treat yourself to a couple of Walkie-Talkies from a local supermarket ? They are surprisingly cheap, and are a great way of keeping in touch, should you decide to go your separate ways.

There is no doubt that you will have your work cut out keeping everyone happy on vacation ~ that's just a fact of life ~ but by following some of the simple tips and ideas above, you should find the needle on your "stress-ometer" hardly flickers at all.
